What We Do

The Denmark Community Cupboard works throughout the community to help neighbors in need. We do this because of the generosity of other neighbors who donate their time, money, and food. We work with these neighbors to help fill a gap that many families face. We don't want families to have to make the decision between paying for groceries or for rent, transportation expenses, or utility expenses.

We also work with the local school district to ensure children have access to nutritious food on the weekends throughout the school year. Keeping our children healthy means that they will be more receptive to the education our teachers provide.

The annual Thanksgiving meal is a community effort led by Denmark neighbors. They cook the turkeys, and provide potatoes, stuffing, rolls, and pie for anyone who comes to the meal. In 2019, over 200 individuals were served on-site at the Denmark High School, or through delivery.

We began our Community Gardens in 2019. The 20 gardens are located at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denmark, and are accessible to residents of all ages and abilities. The food that's grown is shared by the gardeners, and canning classes are offered after the harvest. Registration for each garden costs $10, and opens in mid-April.
